EARLY YEARS - FROM 1950 ACTIVITIES OF ERBE HUNGARIAN COMPANY FOR POWER   PLANT INVESTMENT

ERŐMŰ BERUHÁZÓ VÁLLALAT logó

Before 1945 approximately 700 MW electric power generation capacity of public power plants was available in Hungary. The power plants produced and sold electricity not within a uniform national grid, but they were owned by private companies and operated under concession contracts valid for certain parts of the country.

Following World War II, the motion of creating a comprehensive electricity system was tabled and the energy carriers as well as the electricity generating facilities were nationalized to pass into state ownership.

The first company to be established was ÁLLAMI VILLAMOS MŰVEK Rt. (State Electricity Company Plc) to comprise the entire electricity industry. This company implemented the re-organization and development of the electricity industry and set up the major organizations required to accomplish this task.

In order to meet the gradually increasing demand for energy, the completion of the construction after World War II, and putting into operation of Mátravidéki Power Plant seemed a reasonable solution. In order to implement the plan, a new company under the name MÁTRAVIDÉKI ERŐMŰ ÉS BÁNYAÉPÍTÉSI RT. (Mátra Region Power Plant and Mine Industries Plc) was established.

The implementation of the electrification program soon overgrow the possibilities of Mátravidéki Erőmű és Bányaépítési Rt. and in 1949 the ERŐMŰ TERVEZŐ ÉS ÉPÍTŐ IRODA (Power Plant Designer and Construction Office) was founded. After one year this office was divided into two companies:  ERŐMŰ TERVEZŐ IRODA (Power Plant Designer Office) and ERŐMŰ BERUHÁZÁSI VÁLLALAT (Hungarian Company for Power Plant Investment).

Végzés

ERBE Hungarian Company for Power Plant Investment started its operation in January, 1950. According to its Charter, the scope of activities of ERBE included the construction of power plants (steam, hydraulic power plants, mechanical and electrical equipment, transformer stations) on the basis of agency contracts, quality control and inspection of power plant equipment and materials, provision of specialist tasks associated therewith, service provision, repair and material sales activities required for the process of power plant implementation, participation in technological process erection works, finally, commissioning of power plant equipment. From 1968 ERBE was granted the right to import complete power plants and power plant equipment.

Within the framework of its wide-scale activities, ERBE concluded contracts with general designers first of all to elaborate the development goals of the electricity industry, thereafter to prepare investment proposals, technical designs and detailed implementation plans. The plans were subjected to the scrutiny and approval of an expert jury in the most crucial phases of design.

In the course of implementation, ERBE provided for the preparation, organization, management, technical supervision of works related to project implementation, thereafter ERBE carried out and supervised commissioning. Following successful tests, the staff trained meanwhile took over the facility for operation. The organization of ERBE gradually developed as the company's tasks became more and more complex.

Each power plant construction was accomplished under the management of chief engineers' divisions. The chief engineers' divisions were supported by professional and functional departments. In addition to the technical tasks of the projects, ERBE's tasks involved to render services for the people working at each worksite, and to provide energy required to the erection-installation works.

The 1970s brought significant changes: to prepare for the construction of the nuclear power plant. One part of the staff of ERBE were further trained to special disciplines at the Budapest Technical University and educated on study tours at foreign nuclear power stations to ensure the best possible preparation for the task.

Until 1985 ERBE developed the turn-key contracts for the four units of Paks Nuclear Power Plant and managed the erection-installation and commissioning works.

THE 1980s, POWER PLANT RECONSTRUCTION PROGRAM FINANCED BY WORLD BANK LOANS

In the 1980s the electricity industry had several power plants which became obsolete and needed comprehensive upgrading. MVM decided to launch reconstruction projects to increase the capacities of these power plants. In the framework of this reconstruction program, Pécs, Oroszlány, Mátra (the former Gagarin) and Nyíregyháza Power Plants were upgraded.

For these jobs ERBE was primarily engaged in the selection of contractors, conclusion of contracts, foreign trade transactions, quality control at the manufacturers and at the site, as well as commissioning and guarantee measurements.

The World Bank Loan taken out by MVM in 1986 was aimed at the implementation of this power plant reconstruction program. ERBE's task involved the elaboration of bidding documents, conclusion of contracts and follow-up. This assignment of ERBE awarded by MVM can be regarded as of historical importance as it fundamentally influenced ERBE's future and its further activities. In this connection, close cooperation has been established between ERBE and all Hungarian power plants and power distributor companies in the framework of the implementation and high level maintenance works of the large power projects.

We are proud to state that it was this assignment which transformed ERBE Hungarian Company for Power Plant Investment into the future ERBE Power Engineering & Consulting Ltd.

THE 1990'S AND ERBE POWER ENGINEERING & CONSULTING LTD

ERBE Energetika Mérnökiroda Kft. logó

The privatization of ERBE Hungarian Company for Power Plant Investment took place between 1991 and 1993. As a first step, the Service Division engaged directly at power plant construction sites was outsourced to join a limited liability company of mixed ownership structure.

he remaining majority of ERBE comprising power plant management skills was transformed into a limited liability company under the name of ERBE Power Engineering & Consulting Ltd on 1 October, 1992. Since 1993 its owner has been the Hungarian Power Companies Ltd (MVM).

FOUNDING OF MVM ERBE POWER ENGINEERING & CONSULTING LTD.

The medium-term business strategies of MVM Ltd accepted in July, 2005 set forth the increase of the market value and profitability of the national power group. According to the strategy the number one condition to be met to this end was to transfer MVM and its subsidiaries from the group of companies operating on a corporate-level optimum to a strategic holding operating on a group-level optimum.

The strategic objectives of the MVM Holding included the development of strong engineering services. Knowing and recognizing the activities, achievements and capabilities of ERBE POWER ENGINEERING & CONSULTING Ltd., the management of MVM created a central consulting engineering firm on the basis of ERBE for the preparation and implementation of projects launched by the Holding companies.

Increasing and strengthening our participation in the development of Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd signified a milestone of paramount importance for our Company. To accomplish these priority objectives and concepts we have signed contracts with Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd for the provision of engineering services and for the performance of technical activities and quality supervisory tasks.

The contract for the provision of engineering services included tasks associated with a complex ageing management (service life cycle extension) program, project preparation activities, design, as well as the preparation of authority documents and maintenance.

The contract for quality supervision was signed for rendering independent technical supervisory services in mechanical, electrical, C&I, chemical and civil engineering areas.

In order to fulfil our contractual obligations we have considerably increased our headcount by taking over staff formerly employed by the nuclear power plant.

The MVM Recognized Corporate Group, first of this form of associations in Hungary, came into existence with a new corporate image on 1 June, 2007, creating the possibility for the separate companies to function in a parent company - subsidiary relationship, however under common business management, to operate on the basis of a uniform business policy concept.

MVM ERBE ZRt. megalakulása

MVM Ltd, the parent company coordinates the business activities of the corporate group with uniform and efficient legal instruments introduced by Act IV of 2006 on business associations.
For the purposes of transformation into a Recognised Corporate Group, contracts and articles of association were signed by the parent company and its controlled subsidiaries to regulate cooperation among themselves.

In order to better suit its future role within the corporate group and to emphasize its enhanced importance, the Company was incorporated as a private limited company on 31 December, 2007 with the name of MVM ERBE POWER ENGINEERING & CONSULTING Ltd.
